After two years in which the IPDET (International Program for Development Evaluation Training) training program could “only” be conducted online (despite all that, extremely successfully) due to the pandemic, 137 participants from 67 countries met at the University of Bern between July 11 and 22, 2022 for a unique learning and networking experience.

During its two-week course, IPDET placed great emphasis on connecting with the working practice of its participants, offering a broad approach to target groups from different organizations and sectors that play different roles in the evaluation process.

During the basic course in the first week, the basics of evaluation were taught and elaborated: These included questions about the concept of “evaluation” itself, how to conduct an evaluation, and how to communicate corresponding evaluation results. In the second week, certain topics were further specified in workshop format. These included, on the one hand, more classical topics, such as data collection and analysis procedures, and, on the other hand, more current topics, such as the question of culturally and gender-sensitive evaluation or the role of evaluation for sustainable development.

The program was rounded off by a variety of extracurricular activities that specifically promote personal and global (evaluation) exchange outside the lecture hall!

IPDET is organized and hosted by the Center for University Continuing Education (ZUW) of the University of Bern, the Center for Evaluation (CEval) GmbH in Saarbrücken/Germany, and the Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) of the World Bank Group.
